HONORARY CHAIR & CHAIR LETTERS AND CEM15 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS BIOGRAPHY

Letter from Honorary Chair

It is a pleasure for me to welcome you to Cem15, an international conference devoted to three crucial topics in the study of the mind – cognition, emotion, and motivation. These topics, individually and working together, are central to a wide range of things that humans do in their everyday lives, from the moment we wake up and brush our teeth and make coffee, to the end of the day when we order dinner at a favorite restaurant. The “CEM” conferences are dedicated to the proposition that in order to fully understand how we manage these crucial tasks, we must integrate what we are discovering about cognition, emotion, and motivation.

Past CEM conferences have treated attendees to an illustrious set of keynote speakers from various parts of the world, and Cem15 follows in that tradition. Anyone interested in attention and perception, memory, language, reasoning, problem solving – indeed, all the higher order mental processes – will find this conference enlightening. Anyone interested in being involved in productive and exciting exchanges with researchers from all over the world, will find this conference engaging.

Letter from the Chair

Nowadays, the world witnesses quick changes, requiring performance, efficiency and creativity, more than ever, from people and organizations. The world of research has been concerned with this issue of the explanation of human performance, but especially its modification and improvement. Cognitive scientists are actively involved in the provision of practical and applicable responses to a wide range of problems.

The current unifying and very promising theme in cognitive science is the integration of the three spheres of the human mind, namely Cognition, Emotion and Motivation. Experimental studies, as well as application areas, showed that performance can only be explained, modified or improved through the integration perspective.

As the co-founder of CEM Congress, I am committed since 2007 to build on the exchanges and collaborations between academics and professionals, and to develop international inspiring congresses on this theme, through programs that bring together leading academics and practitioners to exhibit their work, exchange and show that now and whatever its horizon and research field, the cognitive scientist presents applications of its work, changes its environment and improves human performance. Cem07 and Cem09 editions organized in Hammamet-Tunisia have been very successful, showing that altogether researchers, practitioners and professionals can take full advantage of the CEM integration.
